Ohemgee Cattery

We are registered ragdoll cat breeders with TICA/CCA/CFA. We endeavor to maintain a modest, wholesome ragdoll cattery in southwestern Ontario. Just 10 minutes from the Michigan border and Detroit. We are quite proud that we are a cage-free cattery that raises our ragdoll cats and kittens on the floor. We take great delight in breeding friendly, purebred, registered ragdoll kittens. Our blue-eyed ragdoll cats and kittens are handled with care and affection from birth until they are adopted.

They are raised alongside our children and Great Dane, have free reign of our home, and are taught early on that clawing furniture is unacceptable. Our ragdoll kittens are well-adjusted, confident, floppy, and affectionate when they leave. Our top objective is to breed healthy kittens with exceptional Ragdoll temperaments.

Traditional ragdoll hues are Blue, Seal, Cream, and Flame. We breed bicolor, spotted, and pointed designs. Registered Ragdoll cats and kittens of show quality are available.

Short History of the Ragdoll Cat

In the 1960s, a white Persian/Angora domestic longhaired cat named Josephine is credited with establishing the Ragdoll breed (pictured below). Some say she belonged to Ann Baker, a Persian breeder from Riverside, California, while others assert that Josephine was a stray cat that lived in a colony owned by her Pennel neighbors.

We know that Josephine was struck by a car, and at this point, the story takes an odd turn. Ann Baker brought Josephine to the veterinary hospital at the University of California, where she alleges she was subjected to government testing, resulting in her being painless and comfortable when picked up. Ann observed that the second litter of kittens was larger and shared Josephine’s laid-back disposition.

Despite government intrigues, Josephine had two sons from two different fathers. As the name suggests, Blackie was a black cat, while Raggedy Ann Daddy Warbucks (Daddy Warbucks for short) had a cream-colored coat with dark points and white mittens. These two guys are regarded as the Ragdoll breed’s founding fathers. Two kittens, Raggedy Ann Tiki and Raggedy Ann Kyoto, were born to Daddy Warbucks and one of Blackie’s children (Kyoto). Buckwheat, another daughter of Josephine, was coupled with Daddy Warbucks to produce Fugianna.

Do Ragdoll Cats Shed?

Ragdolls are a cat breed renowned for their low shedding. However, regardless of breed, all cats will shed fur. The amount of shedding varies from cat to cat and with the season. Cats often shed more throughout the summer than they do during the winter. Due to the absence of a dense undercoat, Ragdoll cats often shed less than other breeds. Undercoats are one of the primary determinants of your cat’s shedding rate.

Depending on the climate, Ragdolls will have a heavier fur coat in the winter, which they will shed once the weather warms. This causes them to shed a great deal of hair whenever they are petted. Cats always kept indoors may lose sight of the seasons, causing them to frequently shed throughout the year rather than sign in the spring and fall.

Are Ragdoll cats hypoallergenic?

Ragdolls are not included on the list of hypoallergenic cats, as much as we wish it were the case. However, this does not imply that you will experience daily bouts of sneezing. However, they are less allergic than most cats since they lack an undercoat (one of the main allergy causes).

Conclusion

Overall, the Ragdoll breed is a wonderful addition to the family. There’s a reason that these beautiful cats continue to increase in popularity. They’re wonderful creatures that deserve to be appreciated for generations to come.
