TICA and CFA Certifications

It can be tough choosing a cattery or breeder, especially if you’re not able to view their premises.

One way you can get peace of mind is to see they are certificated by either the CFA or TICA. These are two highly-regarded pure breed organizations that help breeders maintain ethical and proper practices.

Here is an overview of what these organizations do:

The International Cat Association (TICA) is an organization that was founded in 1967 with the primary purpose of upholding high standards of breeding for cats.

They require extensive education from their members and are involved in various activities such as showing, judging, and organizing World Championships.

The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) is the world’s premier cat organization and the largest registry and show organization for pedigreed cats.

The CFA recognizes five long hair & six shorthair breeds of cats as well as three types of longhaired kittens. Only registered purebred cats are allowed to participate in any CFA show or event.

How Much Does a Ragdoll Kitten Cost?

The cost of a Ragdoll kitten can be anywhere from $500 to $3,000 as there are many factors that affect the price.

For example, some breeders will charge more for kittens with unique or rare coloration or patterns. Ragdolls with a stong strong pedigree or show cat lineage will also cost considerably more.

This is something to discuss in detail with a breeder before making a decision. To give you a rough idea, however, here is what you can expect to pay:

Type of RagdollApproximate Price
Household Pet$500+
Specialist Coloring$1,500-3,000+
Show Quality$2,000-3,000+
Purebred Quality$2,000-3,000+

Additional Resources

I thought I’d share some additional resources that I think will come in handy for some new or prospective Ragdoll parents:

AdoptaPet.com – AdoptaPet is an online resource that helps connect you with hundreds, maybe even thousands of rescues, shelters, and other places where there are cats in need of homes.

I’m not going to put any pressure on, but there is something rewarding about taking in an adult cat in need of a home.

Ragdolls on Reddit – There is a huge community (25k+ at the time of publishing) over on Reddit.

It’s a good place to make some friends, share cute pictures, and ask any specific questions you have.

Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?

Ragdolls are not high-maintenance cats (medium maybe).

Their fun and easy-going nature make them great pets for people with busy lifestyles and they don’t rely on us for much more than food, water, and attention.

They adjust well to most situations, bringing them home to a busy household shouldn’t be an issue. Ragdolls are great with other pets and kids.

One ‘maintenance’ thing about Ragdolls you need to be aware of and keep on top of is brushing their medium to long fur on a regular basis.

The good news is most Ragdoll cats enjoy being brushed if it’s done from an early age. It’s a great way to bond and really isn’t a chore.

It’s essential though if you’re to keep their coats in good condition, and will save you a costly visit to a groomer if their coats get all knotted.

Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?

Absolutely, Ragdolls are awesome pets!

One thing – you will be amazed at their size and weight. Ragdolls are a large breed, with males weighing between 15-20 pounds and females being between 12-18 pounds.

They are known to be laid back and gentle giants. These cats are great for families with older children because of the large size, and hardiness.

Many people do enjoy the friendly affectionate nature that these cats possess as well as the large size that keeps them warm.

As kittens, they are a lot of fun and really enjoy playtime. Make sure you have some decent interactive toys and set up some fun obstacles around your home or a cat tree.

As they age, you’ll see their character coming out and appreciate how affectionate they are.

If you’re after a big cute, cuddly friend, that’ll become an integral part of your family, Ragdolls are for you.
