TICA and CFA Certifications

Two of the most important certifications to look out for are; TICA and The CFA. These are both organizations that are dedicated to improving the standards and practices of breeders.

For an overview of these organizations:

The International Cat Association (TICA) is the world’s first and largest all-breed cat registry and was founded back in 1967 by a small group of dedicated cat lovers.

They shared their love of cats, and it wasn’t long before they were planning for their first show in 1968 in the city of Chicago, Illinois.

The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) is a non-profit organization of cat fanciers who are dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of felines.

This organization has a membership of over 165,000 people worldwide who own purebred cats or subscribe to their periodicals.

What Is the Average Price of a Ragdoll?

The average cost for a Ragdoll kitten is around $500 to $3,000, but there are many factors that affect the price.

For example, some breeders will charge more for kittens with unusual coloration or patterns. As they will for show standard cats with a strong pedigree.

This is something to discuss in detail with a breeder before making a decision. To give you a rough idea, however, here is what you can expect to pay:

Type of RagdollApproximate Price
Household Pet$500+
Specialist Coloring$1,500-3,000+
Show Quality$2,000-3,000+
Purebred Quality$2,000-3,000+

Additional Resources

There is no shortage of enthusiastic Ragdoll owners out there, you just need to know where to look!

A good place to start is Reddit, one of the largest online platforms for people with shared interests to hang out and share information.

The Ragdoll community is pretty big. It had 25k+ members at the time of writing this. If you have any questions as a new – or expecting – Ragdoll owner, it’s a great place to ask.

Another resource I wanted to share is AdoptaPet.com. AdoptaPet is a good choice if you’re not able to find available kittens from the above breeders, or if you just want to adopt a Ragdoll in need of a home.

There is nothing wrong with adopting a new kitten. But there is something very rewarding about giving an older cat a new home and a higher standard of living.

Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?

The answer is no, not really. Unless you want a show-standard cat, of course.

Most owners consider ragdolls to be low-maintenance cats. Although, I do have to say that there is more grooming involved than with a regular shorthaired cat.

Generally speaking; Ragdolls have very silky coats and have long hair that will require combing/brushing 2-3 times a week.

They also require plenty of daylight – this is so they can stimulate their daytime “feed me!” hunting instincts by chasing things in the house or outside.

Let’s not forget that they are cats though. A little brushing, plenty of food, some playtime, and you’ll have a happy cat on your hands.

Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?

Many people seem to think that a Ragdoll would make a great pet and they become attached due to how cute they are.

They are certainly adorable and fluffy, but are they right for you?

Some of the things you should consider before taking on a ragdoll cat as an addition to your house family is whether or not you have kids and other pets.

Generally speaking, they make great pets for families with kids, but they are not a good choice for all children.

They can be very playful and boisterous, but they can also be a bit clumsy at times.

Some young kids may be a little intimidated by them or find them too rough to play with because of their size.

Another thing you need to think about is whether or not your ragdoll will get along with the other cats and pets in your house.

They are a large breed of cat and are active and energetic. That said, as long as you introduce them to your other pets correctly and your other pets aren’t too old and fragile, it should be fine.

If you have space in your life for a lovable, cuddly creature – and who doesn’t? – you’re in for a real treat!
