TICA and CFA Certifications
You may have seen some breeders saying they are TICA and CFA certified. This is an extra stamp of approval that they registered their cats and are maintaining a high standard.
Here’s what these organizations mean:
The International Cat Association (TICA) is a major player in worldwide cat registries. Founded in 1967, TICA was created as an alternative to the American Cat Fanciers Association (which used mixed breeds to register their cats).
TICA is the world’s largest and oldest association for cat enthusiasts and breeders. It has over fifty years of experience in registering purebred cats from all over the world.
The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) is a non-profit, international organization devoted to the advancement of purebred cats through breeding, showing, and educational programs.
Founded in 1906, it is the largest purebred cat registry in North America. CFA has more than 300 affiliated clubs in North America and has offices on both coasts of the United States.
What Is the Average Price of a Ragdoll?
The average cost for a Ragdoll kitten is around $600 to $1,000, but there are many factors that affect the price. For example, some breeders will charge more for kittens with unusual coloration or patterns.
If you’re after a show-standard or pedigree cat, you expect to pay several thousand more. It’s worth contacting more than one breeder and discussing your options.
Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?
Ragdolls are not typically high maintenance cats. Their easygoing nature makes them great pets for people with busy lifestyles.
They will also adjust well in most situations – whether your home is small or large – making them perfect for families with children.
One thing to know about Ragdolls is that they do need to be brushed regularly. Most Ragdoll cats enjoy spending hours being brushed, petted and loved on, so it’s not a chore.
This is the best way, according to experts, to maintain their coat and keep it in good condition. Experts also suggest getting your Ragdoll groomed every month if you do not do it at home.
Colors and Coat Patterns of Ragdolls
The long and luxurious coat of the Ragdoll is a deep, soft, thick fur that comes in all colors. The breed standard for Ragdolls states that “Their coats are dense with a medium length undercoat, giving them a plush feel”.
The main recognized colors are:
- Red
- Seal
- Blue
- Lilac
- Cream
- Chocolate
The coat patterns of Ragdolls are unique and can be determined by the color combination. They are typically grouped by four patterns as follows:
Bicolor Ragdolls – White fur on the head, legs, chest, tail, and feet with any other color anywhere else on the body.
Colorprints – These are bicolors with patterns consisting of both black and white stripes.
Mitted Ragdolls – These have patches of white all over their body with four “mittens” or big paws that are completely covered with a solid color to create contrast.
Bicolor Ragdolls – These have only small amounts of white on some parts of their body, such as paws or head. This pattern is found in about 75% to 80% percent of all Ragdolls.
Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?
Many people seem to think that a Ragdoll would make a great pet. They are certainly adorable and fluffy, but are they right for you?
Some of the things you should consider before taking on a ragdoll cat as an addition to your house family is whether or not you have kids and other pets.
Generally speaking, they make great pets for families with kids, but they are not a good choice for all children. They can be very playful and boisterous, but they can also be a bit clumsy at times.
Some young kids may be a little intimidated by them or find them too rough to play with because of their size.
Another thing you need to think about is whether or not your ragdoll will get along with the other cats and pets in your house.
They are a large breed of cat, and are active and energetic. As long as you introduce them to your other pets correctly and your other pets aren’t too old and fragile, it should be something you can easily manage.
