TICA and CFA Certifications

You may have seen some breeders saying they are TICA and CFA certified. This is an extra stamp of approval that they registered their cats and are maintaining a high standard.

Here’s what these organizations mean:

The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) is the largest, most experienced, and most respected cat registry in the world.

The CFA has become the single source for all things related to cats and cat fanciers. It has a membership of over 165,000 people worldwide who own purebred cats or subscribe to their periodicals.

The International Cat Association (TICA) is the world’s largest purebred cat registry and the only global organization that represents all breeds of cats.

TICA was founded in 1967 and currently has more than 190 member associations, with more than 20,000 members in 90 countries.

What Is the Average Price of a Ragdoll?

The average price for a Ragdoll cat is in the $1,000 to $1500 range. Although the price can keep rising into the high thousands of a rare pedigree.

There are a large number of factors that contribute to the cost of a Ragdoll, so it’s worth discussing this with any breeders you call.

To give you a (very) rough guide, you can expect to pay somewhere in the region of:

Type of RagdollApproximate Price
Household Pet$500+
Specialist Coloring$1,500-3,000+
Show Quality$2,000-3,000+
Purebred Quality$2,000-3,000+

Additional Resources

I thought I’d share some additional resources that I think will come in handy for some new or prospective Ragdoll parents:

AdoptaPet.com – AdoptaPet is an online resource that helps connect you with hundreds, maybe even thousands of rescues, shelters, and other places where there are cats in need of homes.

I’m not going to put any pressure on, but there is something rewarding about taking in an adult cat in need of a home.

Ragdolls on Reddit – There is a huge community (25k+ at the time of publishing) over on Reddit.

It’s a good place to make some friends, share cute pictures, and ask any specific questions you have.

Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?

The answer is no, Ragdolls are really not high-maintenance cats – unless you want a perfect-looking show standard cat, of course.

I do have to say, however, that there is more grooming involved than with a regular shorthaired cat.

Ragdolls have medium-length fur with stunning coats. This requires regular brushing to help them maintain that lovely silky, knot-free appearance.

Personality-wise, they’re very adaptable and tolerant of busy households and other pets or kids. So, there shouldn’t be an issue with having a new Ragdoll kitten fitting in with your lifestyle.

As long as you provide good quality food, fresh drinking water, and make plenty of time to play, you’ll have an affectionate and loving Ragdoll that’ll give plenty back.

Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?

Ragdolls are among the most popular exotic or pure breed cats that are kept as house pets due to how easy-going they are and what great pets they make.

Not only are they obviously incredibly cute, but they also have a loving and social personality!

The only real main consideration is that they don’t like being left alone for long periods. They much prefer company and attention.

So, if you have a busy home, that’s perfect. They’ll get along great with other pets, kids, and take all the attention they can get.

Are Ragdolls the perfect breed for you?

Only you can really answer that. But, it’s hard to find a reason why they would not be!
