TICA and CFA Certifications
You may have seen some breeders saying they are TICA and CFA certified. This is an extra stamp of approval that they registered their cats and are maintaining a high standard.
Here’s what these organizations mean:
The International Cat Association (TICA) is an organization that was founded in 1967 with the primary purpose of upholding high standards of breeding for cats.
They require extensive education from their members and are involved in various activities such as showing, judging, and organizing World Championships.
The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) is the world’s premier cat organization and the largest registry and show organization for pedigreed cats.
The CFA recognizes five long hair & six shorthair breeds of cats as well as three types of longhaired kittens. Only registered purebred cats are allowed to participate in any CFA show or event.
What Is the Average Price of a Ragdoll?
Generally speaking, the average price of a Ragdoll is around $800-$1,200. But it really varies depending on whether you’re buying a male or female cat, what color the cat is, and if it’s pedigree.
For a pedigree or show-standard Ragdoll, you can pay several thousand dollars and up. It’s always a good idea to call more than one breeder if you’re able to.
Colors and Coat Patterns of Ragdolls
The first thing to know about ragdolls is that they are known for their unusual coloring and patterning, with colors ranging from white to black and every color in between.
In addition, these cats come in many different patterns, from mottled to calico. And some of them have spots or stripes.
The most common ragdoll coat color is white with blue eyes. In fact, 90% of all ragdolls in the world have this coloration.
According to Wikipedia, there are six main colors, which are; red, seal, chocolate, blue, lilac, and cream. There are also four distinctive patterns; bicolor, colorpoint, mitted, and blue point.
The interesting thing is that Ragdolls are born white. Their coloring follows as they pass 8-10 weeks in their pointed areas.
Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?
The answer is no, not really. Unless you want a show standard cat, of course.
Most owners consider ragdolls to be a low maintenance cat. Although, I do have to say that there is more grooming involved than with a regular shorthaired cat.
Generally speaking; Ragdolls have very silky coats and have long hair that will require combing/brushing 2-3 times a week.
They also require 12 hours of daylight – this is so they can stimulate their daytime “feed me!” hunting instincts by chasing things in the house or outside.
Let’s not forget that they are cats though. A little brushing, plenty of food, some playtime, and you’ll have a happy cat on your hands.
Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?
Many people believe that Ragdolls make excellent pets. Unlike some other cats, Ragdolls are docile and gentle – which is a huge plus.
But is this belief true? The answer to this question has been heavily debated throughout the internet.
Many pro-Ragdoll commenters say that these cats are great because they’re happy and don’t scratch people while they’re asleep or destroy furniture like other breeds of cats might do.
On the other hand, there are many people who argue that these cats are not great pets. Some say that Ragdolls have too much fur which can cause children with allergies to develop sneezing spells and watery eyes. I’ve seen others claim that Ragdolls require too much care and attention.
I think it boils down to what you’re looking for. If you want a gentle giant that needs regular brushing but will give you loads of attention back, Ragdolls are for you.
If you want a cat that requires little to no attention, you might want to look for a shorter-haired breed that doesn’t crave human attention.
