Additional Resources
I thought I’d share some additional resources that I think will come in handy for some new or prospective Ragdoll parents:
AdoptaPet.com – AdoptaPet is an online resource that helps connect you with hundreds, maybe even thousands of rescues, shelters, and other places where there are cats in need of homes.
I’m not going to put any pressure on, but there is something rewarding about taking in an adult cat in need of a home.
Ragdolls on Reddit – There is a huge community (25k+ at the time of publishing) over on Reddit.
It’s a good place to make some friends, share cute pictures, and ask any specific questions you have.
TICA and CFA Certifications
Two of the most important certifications to look out for are; TICA and The CFA. These are both organizations that are dedicated to improving the standards and practices of breeders.
For an overview of these organizations:
The International Cat Association (TICA) is the world’s first and largest all-breed cat registry and was founded back in 1967 by a small group of dedicated cat lovers.
They shared their love of cats, and it wasn’t long before they were planning for their first show in 1968 in the city of Chicago, Illinois.
The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) is a non-profit organization of cat fanciers who are dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of felines.
This organization has a membership of over 165,000 people worldwide who own purebred cats or subscribe to their periodicals.
What Is the Average Price of a Ragdoll?
Generally speaking, the Ragdolls can vary in price from as much as $500 to $3,000+. It really depends on what color, pedigree, and type of Ragdoll you want.
Make sure you speak about this with a breeder before making a decision. If they’re not able to deliver what you’re looking for, don’t be shy about phoning around.
To give you a general idea of how much you can expect to pay:
Type of Ragdoll | Approximate Price |
---|---|
Household Pet | $500+ |
Specialist Coloring | $1,500-3,000+ |
Show Quality | $2,000-3,000+ |
Purebred Quality | $2,000-3,000+ |
Are Ragdoll Cats High Maintenance?
Ragdolls are not high-maintenance cats (medium maybe).
Their fun and easy-going nature make them great pets for people with busy lifestyles and they don’t rely on us for much more than food, water, and attention.
They adjust well to most situations, bringing them home to a busy household shouldn’t be an issue. Ragdolls are great with other pets and kids.
One ‘maintenance’ thing about Ragdolls you need to be aware of and keep on top of is brushing their medium to long fur on a regular basis.
The good news is most Ragdoll cats enjoy being brushed if it’s done from an early age. It’s a great way to bond and really isn’t a chore.
It’s essential though if you’re to keep their coats in good condition, and will save you a costly visit to a groomer if their coats get all knotted.
Do Ragdolls Make Good Pets?
Ragdolls are among the most popular exotic or pure breed cats that are kept as house pets due to how easy-going they are and what great pets they make.
Not only are they obviously incredibly cute, but they also have a loving and social personality!
The only real main consideration is that they don’t like being left alone for long periods. They much prefer company and attention.
So, if you have a busy home, that’s perfect. They’ll get along great with other pets, kids, and take all the attention they can get.
Are Ragdolls the perfect breed for you?
Only you can really answer that. But, it’s hard to find a reason why they would not be!
