Persian Cat Personality Traits
Persians are one of the more gentle and lazy breeds of cat. My auntie had one when I was growing up, and as much as I loved visiting so I could see her, she really did little more than sleep in her favorite chair.
This doesn’t apply to all Persians of course, and kittens will be kittens. Adopting a Persian kitten you can expect to have your hands full for the next year, but they will soon become laid back.
If you were hoping for a more energetic and playful cat, I suggest looking into a Sphynx for one of the more exotic options, or a Siberian. (You can find out more about those breeds and reputable breeders via the links.)
How Much Do Persian Kittens Cost?
Persians and an exotic and pure breed, so buying from a good breeder means you’re getting a cat that is a pedigree.
This is the main reason why they are one of the more expensive cat breeds. You can expect to pay between $700-$1,200 for Persian from a reputable breeder.
How Much Do Persian Cats Cost?
Due to possible health issues, older Persians cost less than kittens. Some of the rarer colors still fetch more than the common colors of course, but I’d expect to pay around $500 on average.
Do Persian Cats Require a Lot of Maintenance?
In a word – Yes.
As cats go, Persians require more maintenance than most. They have long coats that require daily grooming, although the results of such are spectacular and worth the effort in my opinion.
They tend to get food stuck in their fur on their faces and bibs too, so bathing is required.
Then there are the health issues… their face and skull structure makes them prone to breathing issues, eye, and skin problems.
If you’re buying from a good breeder however, you can minimize the risks of these health problems. They will be best placed to advise you on this in more detail and it’s certainly something worth discussing in detail.
Do Persian Cats Make Good Family Pets?
Persians are not the best breed of cat to introduce into a busy home. They are happiest having space to themselves, and honestly, just don’t want kids and other animals bothering them.
They are best suited to people who want a cat as a loyal companion that do not mind the grooming work, and are happy if they don’t get a lot of interaction back.
