What to Look out for When Buying a Persian?
First of all, look for CFA registered Persian breeders. This means they’re part of the Cat Fanciers’ Association for pedigree cats. Also, look for TICA registered Persian breeders, which means they’re part of the International Cat Association for pedigree cats.
Both of these organizations set out high standards for breeders to adhere to, giving you peace of mind that you’re adopting a kitten that has been bred and brought up in a loving environment.
When you find a breeder you’re comfortable with, ask lots of questions! They love being asked questions, they want their pedigree cats to go to a loving home as much as you want to be that home for them.
Types and Colors of Persian Cats
If you’re new to Persians, you need to get up to speed with all the terminology, types, and colors of Persians most commonly available.
Here are the main types of Persians and some of their individual characteristics and personality traits:
Types and Varieties of Persians
Doll Face Persian – Known as the original, traditional, or old fashioned Persians. The Doll Face has that “Classic” Persian look you’ll be familiar with from images and videos.
Himalayan Persian – A cross between a Persian and a Siamese, the Himalayan typically has Siamese colors with the Persian looks.
Peke-Face Persian – This variety is named after Pekingese dogs as they have some visual similarities. Compared to a Doll Face they have a more square head and a smaller nose. They do have more difficulty breathing, which is something to be aware of.
Teacup Persian – As the name suggests, these are bread to be tiny cats. They do, however, typically suffer from some health issues, so discuss their health in detail with the breeder if you’re considering adopting one.
Chinchilla Persian – Chinchilla Persians have very think coats, it’s quite the experience to stroke on. Hence why they’re named after a chinchilla, a rodent with extremely dense fur.
Exotic Shorthair Persian – Persians are known for their long fluffy coats. If you don’t want to deal with all that grooming, dander, and shedding fur, I recommend checking out the exotic shorthair.
Colors of Persians
Persian cats are available in almost any color and combination of colors. There are some colors that are a lot more common than others and easier to find though. The main classifications and colors you can expect to find are:
Solid Color Division – White, Black, Blue, Red, and Cream.
Silver and Golden Division – Chinchilla Silver, Shaded Silver, and Chinchilla Golden.
Tabby Division – Brown Tabby, Blue Tabby, Lilac Tabby, Cream Tabby, Cameo Tabby, Silver Tabby, Blue Tabby, and Patchy Tabby Colors.
Parti-Color Division – Blue-Cream, Tortoiseshell, Lilac-Cream, and Chocolate Tortoiseshell.
Calico and Bicolor Division – Dilute Calico, Chocolate Calico, Lilac Calico, Bicolor, Smoke and White, Shaded and White, and Tabby and White.

You can expect to pay anywhere between $700-$1,200 for a Persian kitten. As with all exotic breeds, there are a lot of things that factor into the price so this is a ballpark figure.

You can expect to pay anywhere between $500-$700 to adopt an adult Persian. Because they have some hereditary health issues, you must adopt from someone that can tell you about their history.
Are Persians Good Family Pets?
Persians are the most popular exotic pedigree cats in North America, so it’s fair to say they make awesome pets.
There are a few reasons for this:
- They are super cute and very recognizable from other breeds
- They have been heavily portrayed on TV and other media so they’re well-known

- They have a sweet, gentle personality and a joy to have around

Bellespurr is a sham. I paid $1,500 for a kitten the owner Lucy promised and contractually agreed was healthy. She lied. She clearly never took the kitten to the vet. After I took the kitten to the vet (After purchase), I found out he had an eye ulcer, round worm, and ring worm. She is clearly running a disgusting kittery and taking unknowing people’s money without meeting her responsibilities. You all should take Bellespur off this list so no one else has to suffer like my family has.
