How Much Does a Persian Cat Cost?

As with any exotic cat breed, pricing varies a lot depending on the variety, markings, history of the cat, and so on.

To give you a general idea, however, most pure or show-quality Persians cost anywhere between $1,000 to $2,000.

Persians that are solely intended as ‘pets’ can be a fair bit less. It’s always a good idea to call around and get some different quotes.

What to Look for From a Cattery or Breeder

When looking for a Persian cat breeder, it is important to put your trust in one that is reputable and checks out.

You can start by asking around for recommendations or looking for online reviews.

A good breeder should also be able to provide you with references from other happy customers or show you pictures of some kittens they’ve placed in homes.

They should also be able to answer any questions you have about the breed and be willing to let you visit the kitten and its parents.

When you do visit a cattery, make sure you check the facility is clean and well-maintained.

The cats should also have plenty of space to roam and look to be healthy and happy.

If everything checks out, then you can feel confident that you’ve found a good breeder to work with.

Make Sure You Read the Adoption Agreement Carefully

I know how easy it is to lead with your heart when you lock eyes on a cute little Persian kitten, but you also have to act with your head.

Your contract will usually be called an ‘adoption agreement’, make sure you ask for this and read it early on.

This document will outline the terms of your adoption and what is expected of you as the new Persian cat parent.

It is important that you understand everything in this agreement before signing on the dotted line.

Some things to look out for are whether or not the breeder offers a health guarantee, what their refund/return policy is, and if they have any specific requirements for the care of your new kitten.

By taking the time to read this agreement carefully, you can help avoid any misunderstandings!

There Are Different Persian Cat Varieties

When most people think of a Persian cat, they typically envision the traditional doll-faced variety.

However, there are various other varieties such as the Peke-face, Chinchilla, Exotic Shorthair, and Teacup varieties.

My advice is to do your research on the differences and which variety will be best for your family home.

Generally speaking, however, there is no mistaking a Persian’s distinctive look.

They’re known for their long, thick fur coats, round faces, and large eyes.

Males typically weigh around  12 pounds while females weigh around eight to ten pounds.

Are Persians Good Family Cats?

Before adopting any pet, you should always make sure their temperament is going to be a perfect fit with your household.

The good news is – Persian cats are known for being gentle, affectionate, and loving.

They typically get along well with children and other pets, making them a great choice for most families.

They are also great companions. If you enjoy a quiet night in front of the TV, a Persian will be more than happy to curl up next to you.

Of course, every cat is different and you should always introduce any new pet slowly to make sure everyone gets along okay.

But overall, Persians make great family companions.
