A Little History of The British Shorthair

The British Shorthair dates back to the first century but has been selectively bred in more recent centuries to become the cat we all know and love today.

They were originally brought to Britain by the Romans and quickly became a popular pet among British nobility.

The British Shorthair was first recognized as an official breed in the late 1800s and has been gaining popularity ever since.

Today, they are one of the most popular cat breeds in the world!

How Much Does a British Shorthair Cat Cost?

British Shorthair cats are a pedigree breed and come with a high price tag – but they’re worth every penny!

You can typically expect to pay somewhere in the range of $1,500 to $3,000 USD depending on the color and pedigree.

Keep in mind there may also be some other costs involved, such as vaccines, and routine vet check-ups.

Tips When Choosing a British Shorthair Breeder or Cattery

I’ve done my best to verify the breeders listed above, but you should always do your own research to make sure you’re adopting from a reputable cattery.

When looking for a British Shorthair cattery, you should always visit in person and expect to see the following:

  • The cattery should be clean and well-organized.
  • The cats should look healthy and well-cared for.
  • The breeder should be able to answer all of your questions about the British Shorthair breed.
  • You should just get a good feeling about the cattery, if not, don’t hesitate to  walk away

I know how excited you are to adopt an adorable new kitten, but you have to think with your head and not just your heart!

Make Sure You Read the Adoption Policy Closely!

The most important document you’ll be given by the cattery or breeder is an adoption policy.

Be sure to read it carefully and ask questions about anything you don’t understand.

This document is important because it will outline the responsibilities of both the British Shorthair adopter as well as the cattery or breeder.

It will also contain information on things like spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and other health care items that need to be taken care of.

Do British Shorthair Cats Make Good Pets?

All cats make good pets, but some breeds have different requirements than others and are better suited to different environments.

British Shorthairs do best in homes where they will have access to a good amount of space and interaction to play.

They are also a relatively calm breed of cat, which makes them good for families with small children or other pets.

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance pet, the British Shorthair is definitely a good choice!

British Shorthairs are also known to be quite affectionate and can form strong bonds with their owners.

So, they are a perfect choice for someone looking for a loyal and loving companion.
