The Burmese are cheerful and full of life. They enjoy conversations as much as their Siamese predecessors and possess the charm and tenacity of that breed, but his voice is soft and sweet. They are extremely intelligent and crave human company, so a home where they will spend most of the day alone is not the best place for them. Make sure they have a pet companion if no humans will be present to challenge their intellect. They get along well with both dogs and cats.

Following is the list of Burmese cat breeders in Michigan for you to see and choose from, but always be careful and do complete research about the breeder’s history and resources before buying a pet.

Short History of the Burmese Cat

The Siamese and the “copper cat” of Burma are the forefathers of the modern-day Burmese breed. They are believed to have been cats that priests bred and kept in temples and palaces. Wong Mau, a small, dark-brown cat, was the queen mother of the modern Burmese cats in America.

Depending on which version of the story you buy, she belonged to Dr. Joseph Thompson, who either bought her from a sailor or brought her home himself after his travels and bred Wong Mau with the help of local cat breeders in the USA to promote the breed.

Are Burmese Cats Hypoallergenic?

Yes, they can be termed hypoallergenic cats because they have short hair coats which don’t require much grooming. As they are genetically linked to the Siamese cat breed they also shed very less hair, and disperse little skin and saliva proteins in the environment making them a good choice for allergy sufferers.

Tips When Choosing a Burmese Cat Breeder or Cattery

  • They should have all the basic necessities required for breeding cats
  • They should have a clean and escape-proof building so cats are unable to go out on their own
  • Preferably they should be affiliated to a cat organization like CFA or any other
  • They should have a proof that their cats are purebred and not a cross with a Siamese cat
  • All the medical records of adult cats and kittens should be available
  • Ask them questions related to the breed and their previous litters to judge their experience
