I love reading stuff like that, it goes to show what an important role cat cafes play in communities.

They’re not just for fun or some kind of spectacle. Cat cafes provide a place for at-risk and homeless cats, with the view of finding them a forever home with a patron.

Kitty Brew says it best on their site, “Whether you are looking to adopt a cat or a way to relax after a stressful day on the job, Kitty Brew can help!”

“The goal of Gem City Catfé is to foster positive interactions between cats and people, in an expectation-free environment.”

With fair-trade coffee, tea, and delicious bakery items along with wine and cocktails, and of course free-roaming cats, I can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t drop by Gem City Catfe.

Their cats are in a separate ca lounge, and there are usually in the region of 18, cute, playful adoptable cats to hang out with.

First Time at a Cat Cafe? What to Expect!

If you’ve never been to a cat cafe before, I can give you a good idea of what to expect.

Each cafe is going to be different, of course, but you can expect a combination of a cafe plus a cat adoption center for the most part.

Most cat cafes are run by cat-lovers and have a mission to help the local homeless cat population.

A lot of cat cafes take in cats from local rescues and shelters and give them a new home in their cafe. They also make their cats available for adoption for customers.

They are essentially operating as pet adoption centers and using food and drink as a way for people to come and spend some time with the cats.

Don’t let this put you off if you’re just a casual visitor though. Any donations are going to help the cafe with its mission, and ultimately help rehome at-risk cats.

Something important to keep in mind is that you will most likely have to book a time slot to visit.

Cat cafes have strict rules on how many customers can visit at a time to ensure their cats aren’t stressed by the number of people coming and going.

You will also likely see some rules on their website. Make sure you read these and are fully aware of how you need to behave and the dos and don’ts when visiting!

How Cat Cafes Help At-Risk Cats

There is often the misconception that cat cafes are created for the entertainment of customers. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Every cat cafe I’ve reviewed found all of their cats at local rescues and used the cat cafe as an adoption center more than a profit-making business.

In addition to giving homeless cats a new home and an interactive lounge, cat cafes typically also put all of their cats up for adoption.

So, it’s more accurate to look at a cat cafe as a pet adoption business with the cafe aspect to get more customers through the door than it is a cafe with cats (if that makes sense).

If you want to do your part for homeless cats in your state, visiting a cat cafe is the best thing you can do.

You don’t have to be able to adopt one of their cats, any money you spend is going to go towards a good cause.

Plus, you get to hang out with cats, have good coffee and food, and enjoy a unique experience – it’s a win-win.
