What It Means to Be TICA or CFA Certified
You may have heard of or seen logos for the CFA (The Cat Fanciers’ Association) or TICA (The International Cat Association) when viewing a breeders website.
These two organizations are registries for pedigree cats and also hold catteries and breeders to high standards.
Not every breeder will be a member of either of these organizations, and it’s not a requirement by any means.
But it does show that they are dedicated to operating an ethical and professional business and that they are registering their cats.
Essentially it’s added peace of mind. You’re going to be spending a lot of money on your Siberian, so you do have to do some due diligence.
Another thing you can do to reassure yourself that you’re dealing with a trustable breeder is to look for reviews online.
It’s not always easy to find reviews from happy customers, but it’s something you should at least look into.
How Much Do Siberian Cats Cost?
As a rare pedigree, Siberian cats come with a high price tag. But they are worth every penny!
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the price of a Siberian cat. However, looking at a few breeder websites you’re looking to pay somewhere in the range of $1,500-$4,000.
If you’re considering a Siberian because you have allergies, there are some variations that have even lower allergens but they might come with a higher price.
This along with the other requirements you have is something to discuss with a breeder to get a more accurate idea of how much you’ll have to pay.

Are Siberians Really Hypoallergenic Cats?
Siberian cats are often marketed as hypoallergenic and perfect for people with allergies – and this is true.
When someone is allergic to cats, it’s because cats produce an allergen called FelD1. This allergen becomes airborne when cats groom themselves and they create dander.
Siberians produce a much lower amount of FelD1 compared with other breeds, this is what makes them ‘hypoallergenic’.
Some people who are allergic to cats do not experience any allergic reactions living with Siberians at all.
It’s still possible to have a reaction though and depends on the individual. Some breeders specialize in Siberians that have very low FelD1, if you suffer from allergies you should discuss this before making a decision.
Average Lifespan of a Siberian Cat
According to online sources, the average lifespan of a Siberian cat is fairly typical in the 10-12 year range.
Everyone I speak to who has owned them, however, says they expect an age more in the 14-16 range.
Are Siberian Cats Good Family Pets?
Siberians are great family pets, you have nothing to be concerned about in regards to how well they’ll settle into your home.
They adapt well to different climates, have a calm and friendly temperament towards other animals, and enjoy human company.
Ideally, there will be someone in most of the time I’m in your home, as Siberians prefer company.
They are cats though and are perfectly fine being left alone for short periods. They do like their sleep but are more active at night like most cats are.
If you do let your Siberian out, you need to be aware that they love exploring and are very good at catching prey for big cats.
A combination of some sturdy cat furniture, some interactive toys, and plenty of play and fuss time is the perfect recipe for a Siberian.
Oh, and of course some regular brushing is required to help keep their thick coats in good order and free of matting.
