Abyssinian Cat Personality Traits
If you were hoping for a calm lap cat, you are probably better off looking into a Munchkin or a Siamese.
Abyssinians, or Aby’s as they are called for short, have a lot of energy and are much more likely to spend their time playing with toys, climbing, and exploring than they are sleeping on your lap for hours while you watch a good movie.
They are very social animals though. They love being part of a busy household as it means they will get more attention and fussing. So, don’t worry about introducing them to a hectic home with kids and other pets.
As long as there is someone willing to play with them when they want. Fuss them when they want, and basically attend to their needs – like most cats – they will be more than happy to give back plenty of love in return.
How Much Do Abyssinian Kittens Cost?
An Abyssinian kitten from a reputable breeder will typically cost between $750-$1,300. They are an exotic breed, so expect to wait for a litter if you’ve just started inquiring about a kitten near where you live.
How Much Do Abyssinian Cats Cost?
If you’d prefer to adopt and rehome an adult Abyssinian, good on you. There are always cats of all breeds in need of a new loving home, and I’m a huge advocate of giving these cats another loving home if possible.
You can expect to pay a lot less than you would for a kitten too if that’s an added bonus. Depending on the age and some other specifics of the cat, you can expect to pay a few hundred bucks.
Do Abyssinians Make Good Pets?
Yes. Abyssinians make great family pets. They are good with kids and other animals, are social, loving, and make for a great addition to any home.
They require a good cat tree or some other furniture to explore and play on if spending a good deal of time indoors. They are agile and active cats, so expect to spend plenty of time playing with them, especially while seeing them through into adulthood.
If you need to leave them at home during the day while you’re out another pet would go a long way to helping keep them happy. Abyssinians can get lonely if left alone a lot.
