Looking for Abyssinian cat breeders in North Carolina?
Unfortunately, at the time of publishing, there was only one breeder in North Carolina, so I recommend contacting them first.
If they do not have any expected litters, you’ll find catteries and breeders across the rest of the US at the bottom of this post.
I wish you luck with your search to find a new addition to your family!

How Much Do Abyssinian Cats Cost?
Abyssinian cats typically cost between $600 and $1200. However, prices may vary depending on the breeder, where you live, and other factors.
About Abyssinians
Abyssinian cats are a special breed of cat that is known for their intelligence, playfulness, and affectionate nature.
Abyssinians are also relatively rare compared to other cat breeds, which makes them all the more special!
The first Abyssinians can be traced back as far as the 1800s, and they are thought to be one of the oldest domesticated cat breeds.
Abyssinians get their name from Abyssinia, which is now known as Ethiopia.
Abyssinian cats were first brought to Europe in the late 1800s by British soldiers who had been stationed in Abyssinia during a war.
The soldiers fell in love with the local cats and decided to bring some of them home with them.
What to Look For In An Abyssinian Cattery or Breeder
When working with Abyssinian breeders, be sure to find one that is registered with The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) or a similar organization.
This way you can be sure that the breeder is reputable and the Abyssinians are healthy and well-cared for to ethical standards.
Some of the questions I recommend asking a breeder are:
- How long have you been breeding Abyssinians?
- Do you have both parents on site? If not, can I see pictures or videos of them?
- What sort of health clearances do the parents have?
- What is included in the price of the kitten (e.g., spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, etc.)?
- When can I take my kitten home?
- Do you offer any sort of health guarantee or warranty?
A good breeder will be more than happy to answer any questions you have, send you updates while you wait for your kitten to be old enough to leave its mother, and they’ll follow up after you take your Aby home.
Are Abyssinians Right for You?
Abyssinians are a wonderful breed of cat, but they’re not right for everyone.
Before getting carried away by how cute Abyssinian kittens are, you need to be sure that you are prepared to provide your new kitten with everything they need.
Abyssinians require a lot of attention and care, so if you’re looking for a low-maintenance pet, they might not be the right choice for you.
However, if you’re after a cat that is going to be an affectionate companion, and you’re prepared to give them the time and attention they need, then an Abyssinian might just be perfect for you.
Abyssinians are very intelligent and agile cats, so nowhere is going to be out of bounds for them in your home.
Abyssinians are also known to be quite vocal, so if you’re looking for a quiet cat, again, they might not be the right breed for you.
