How to Name a Cat – Tips to Help You Make a Decision
Trust me, I know how hard it is to name a cat.
I’ve had to do it more times than I can remember over the years, and I still struggle to come up with names I’m 100% happy with.
I’m not even that indecisive of a person, it’s just such a big deal, isn’t it?!
Here are some tips that have helped me to settle on a name before, and should help you too:
Look at features that stand out about your cat – This is always the best way to narrow down potential names for a cat.
Look at what distinctive features your kitty has. If they have white paws, as is the topic of this post, then you should find a name that relates to that.
Keep it short and simple – As fun as it is having an unusual name and explaining it to people, it does get kind of boring over time.
Contrary to what some people think, cats can and do learn their names. You don’t want to confuse them by listing out several barrel names every time you want their attention.
Don’t rush it! – It doesn’t feel great being indecisive and mulling over a bunch of names. But the last thing you want is to have to change their name in the future.
Take your time, your cat doesn’t care that it doesn’t have a name for a few days or even weeks.

Why Do Cats Have White Paws?
If you’ve noticed that a lot of cats have white paws, this isn’t just a coincidence. A lot of cats do have white paws.
The interesting thing is that white paws are a lot less common on wild cats. This is because having white paws or any white markings makes a wild cat easier to spot and more vulnerable.
It’s domestication and selective breeding that has led to so many domestic cats having white paws. It’s believed that hundreds of years ago humans would select cats with white paws and this increased their popularity.
Do All Tabbies Have White Paws?
Tabby cats are very popular and a lot of them do have white paws – but all tabby cats do not have white paws, no.
Tabby isn’t a breed of cat, it’s the name of a specific type of coat pattern that is most commonly referred to as stripes.
They can have just about any color or a combination of colors on their paws. If every tabby you’ve seen has always had white paws, it’s just a coincidence, honest!
