Is Mrs Meyers Safe for Pets? (Ingredients and Information)

Is Mrs Meyers Safe for Pets

When it comes to cleaning around the home, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that as pet owners it’s important we use products that are very effective – and more importantly – safe for use around our pets.

In my opinion, Mrs Meyers’ line of cleaning products is some of the best smelling and most effective cleaning products.

So, I thought I’d take a detailed look into the question, “is Mrs Meyers safe for pets?”

More specifically, can I (and you) use them around cats and dogs without any risk whatsoever to them?

What Are Mrs Meyers Cleaning Products?

First of all, you’ll have to excuse me for getting a little excited about these products in this article. I love cleaning and keeping my home smelling fresh, and I’m a huge fan of Mrs Meyers.

Speaking of Mrs Meyers, she’s a real person!

The range of products was inspired by a lady called Mrs. Thelma A. Meyer. A homemaker from Iowa with 9 kids, a passion for cleaning with strong-smelling products, and a love for the environment.

A pretty good combination for cleaning products that will get the job done without harming the environment, pets, us, and the surfaces we’re cleaning – and they really are!

Their entire range of products is made with plant-derived ingredients, essential oils, and some other natural ingredients.

The key points they make very clear is that their range of products is that they are:

  • Made with a cruelty-free formula
  • Have garden-inspired scents
  • Made with essential oils and other carefully chosen ingredients
  • Have recyclable packaging

All stuff I’m happy to support!

So, Is Mrs Meyers Safe for Pets?

Using Mrs Meyers products around your cat and dog

According to Mrs Meyers, their products are safe for pets, yes.

They do not contain any of the harmful chemicals found in some commercial cleaning products that are known to be harmful to cats, dogs, and other pets.

That’s right, they do not use:

  • Ammonia
  • Chlorine
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Formaldehyde
  • Phosphates or petroleum distillates

They also make it clear they never, ever test any of their products on animals.

So, as far as environmental and pet-friendly products go, as far as I can tell this is about as good as it gets.

This Doesn’t Mean They’ll Like the Smell Though!

Mrs Meyers makes a big deal about how their products have a strong “garden-inspired” smell to them, and they’re not wrong.

To us, this is one of the best things about their products. To pets, however, the smell can be overwhelming.

Remember, cats have a sense of smell that is around 9-16 times as strong as ours. While a dog’s sense of smell is around 40 times greater than ours.

While it’s not harmful in any way, it still might deter your pets from going where you’ve been cleaning. Which is actually a benefit in most instances, right?

It’s certainly a much better alternative to using bleach. Bleach contains some potentially harmful chemicals, and also attracts cats to rub around where you’ve been using it.

Is Mrs Meyers Good for Removing Pet Stains and Odors?

Using pet-safe cleaning products is one thing. If they’re not up to the task of cleaning up after our pets there isn’t much point, right?

I’ll admit, I haven’t had to remove any really stubborn stains like a hairball or some vomit.

You’ll probably be better off using a strong product that’s effective at removing the worst of the worst, then using Mrs Meyers to freshen up the scene.

You can check out some of the best cleaning products for cat vomit here.

I do use their laundry detergent, a couple of their multi-purpose surface cleaners though. I can say without a doubt that they remove all those general pet stains and odors pet owners are all too familiar with.

I’m also a fan of essential oils, so I’m very aware of how different scents provide different wellness and practical benefits.

The laundry detergent I use is scented with lemon verbena, and the sprays are lavender and honeysuckle.

I can’t recommend the Lavender scented cleaner enough. Lavender is known to create a relaxing environment. If you live in a chaotic home with pets running all over the place, it might help create a calming environment while removing those stains.

In Summary

There you have it, if you were looking for pet-safe cleaning products Mrs Meyers is one of the best options on the market (in my opinion).

These products are made without using harsh chemicals known to be toxic or harmful to pets.

The scent might not be to their liking though, but it will be to yours – and sometimes we need to put ourselves before our pets!
