The battle between cats, fleas, and cat owners is one that will rage on for as long as these little critters exist.
There are various flea treatments on the market, and I’ve tried nearly all of them – trust me, I really have.
I’ve been through dozens of collars. The sticky ones, strong smelling ones, timed-release ones, as well as tablets, shampoos, pipettes, and so on.
I can name one flea killing product for cats that’s literally out there a good way ahead of all the other options though – it’s this Seresto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats.
In short, this collar effectively kills fleas within hours of being put on. It’s an odorless, easy to use (as are all collars), and lasts for up to 8 months!
If you’re interested in all the features, uses, and how it works in more detail (I love the details) then please read on and hopefully I’ll be of some help!

Seresto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats Review
If you’re looking for a flea collar that works, the Seresto is the best I’ve personally used.
It’s not the cheapest collar on the market, but it’s the most effective. So, you can look at it as value for money. Or on a simpler level, why spend any money on a collar that doesn’t rid your cat of fleas?
Topical treatments do tend to be the most effective, I will say that. But you’re looking at 8-10 weeks of protection, while this collar is good for up to 8 months!
In short, the selling points of the Seresto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats are:
- 8 month of protection against fleas and ticks.
- Odorless, non-greasy feel.
- Quick release safety mechanism.
- Reflectors for night visibility.
I thought the best way to cover all the features of this collar was to answer some of the common questions I found online, and anticipate anyone thinking of buying one would be asking:
How Tight Should Seresto Collars Be?
If you’ve put collars on your cat before then you treat the Seresto the same as any collar.
For those new to cat collars, the basic rule of thumb is to tighten a collar leaving enough space for you to slip two fingers underneath.
This leaves enough room for a cat to slip their head out in the case of an emergency if the collar gets caught on something.
It’s also tight enough that they won’t lose their collar (be it deliberately or accidentally), none of my cats have ever lost a collar so this rule works for me.
The Seresto collar also has a built-in release mechanism that allows the collar to widen if it’s put under stress for extra peace of mind.
Are Seresto Collars Safe?
Yes. You can use this Seresto collar on a kitten 10 weeks of age and older without any concerns about safety.
They have been specially formulated to have a powerful combination of ingredients that kill fleas fast, and not harm cats.
Obviously, you should always wash your hands after touching the collar. This is the same with any flea collars, but it’s non-greasy, odorless design makes it safe and easy to use.
Some cats do have skin that’s sensitive to flea treatments. Just keep an eye on their neck for the first few days to be on the safe side.
Seresto Collar Allergic Reactions? What to Lookout For
As I mentioned above, some cats might have an allergic reaction to a Seresto collar. Just as they may to any flea treatments.
I’ve read through dozens of reviews from cat owners that say the collar did cause their cat to lose some hair around their necks, and even some reddening of the skin.
All you can do it keep a close eye on your cat for the first few days they are wearing the collar. There is no way to know ahead of time if they will have an allergic reaction.
It does seem to be very rare, however, so it’s not something that should put you off buying one. It’s more important you rid your cat of fleas than worry about potential issues that are very unlikely.

Is The Seresto Flea Collar Waterproof?
It is waterproof to the effect that your cat can wear it outside in all weathers and the effectiveness shouldn’t be compromised.
It’s not like cats like getting soggy anyway. So I shouldn’t image there are many instances where the collar will get very wet.
It’s common sense that you don’t want to be submerging the collar in water for any reason though.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve tried other flea collars or other products and been constantly frustrated and let down with them not working, I’d definatley give this Seresto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats a try.
It’s the most effective cat collar I’ve used and has a really long life. Don’t just take my word for it, there is plenty more customer feedback over an Amazon.
